Here’s the worst part: this was not a judgement call. The rule book is 100% clear that once the time on the clock has expired, the match is over and no match points can be awarded. A team point could be deducted, but a match point cannot be awarded. There is no judgement here. This was a 100% misapplication of the rules.

On top of all that, think how many times a kid runs to his coach after a state finals win. In my 35 years around this sport I have never once seen a ref try to do this. Truly alarming that he almost stole a state title from that kid.

Finally, the fact that the tournament committee agreed with him blows my mind. How did none of them have a rule book? This is the most important tournament of the year, and they totally blew it. I hope there is some training and changes made to avoid this type of thing in the future.
