Splitting the girls does not hurt how we compete at a national level. Those girls that compete at the national level all compete against eachother throughout the high school season and throughout the freestyle and greco season. Post season tournaments with split divisions doesn't change that. The ones that want to compete at a national level will be at Freestyle and Greco state. And, Washington ladies perform pretty damn well nationally in my opinion.
Your comparison to boys is weak. Boys wrestling doesn't compare well nationally because of lack of college programs. Girls Wrestling has helped move things in the right direction towards getting some back. Once we have more colleges around the state with wrestling, the state will get stronger. Pennsylvania, a state half our size with roughly 4.5 million more people, has 45 colleges with men's wrestling. Washington has what, three JUCO teams? These ladies programs are saving the sport and if splitting the division helps grow the sport, then I'm all for it.
