WA girls wrestling has been growing fast and our women do great on the national level. And so what do we do? We water down the competition. Pham, you point out how competitive we are compared to Cali, and I agree. But you think splitting into two divisions will make women’s wrestling even better, while I think it will make it worse. Is there any objective reason to think that less competition will improve the quality of WA wrestling? I get that you think this will improve numbers. Maybe it will. But at what cost? Do we have better boys wrestling now compared to 20 years ago? Also, why would splitting divisions attract more girls? Because some coaches and teammates will say “ join wrestling because you make it to state super easily!” Is that attitude going to grow the sport? These girls who want any easy path to success are going to lead WA to greater heights?
