Re: Congratulations to all the girls
Every year people say the same thing, but forget about the bigger picture. The sport of women's wrestling has grown tremendously in the US and Washington State has been way ahead of the curve leading the way. There are a lot of states that still don't have a sanctioned state tournament. One of the reasons it has grown so fast in Washington is that the WIAA has created more opportunities for the sport to grow and give girls the opportunity to be successful. If you compare the state champs that won the first few state tournaments for girls to the ones winning now, there is no comparison. The quality has grown by leaps and bounds. There will be an inherent decrease in quality if you increase the numbers qualifying for state, but overall it will catch up and the quality will improve as the numbers grow. Arguing that it demeans the accomplishment of past wrestlers doesn't hold water when it comes to the girls because the quality of the top tier girls has gotten better and better every year. You may disagree with me, but the numbers don't lie. There is more growth in girls' wrestling than any other sport, and that is good for everyone.
