It is very similar to how a coach should handle a questionable (in his mind) call. Don't get mad, just ask a question for clarification. Now, if the the explanation (data) you receive does not accurately reflect the rule in the book, then discuss (provide data from the rules book) with the ref the rule and if you are right on reading the rule then you will get a change on the call. If not right then you need to be ready to receive the Coaches Misconduct call because you know the books says to.
Just a little common sense 101 discussion based on years managing the board and years in both the coaching and officiating trenches. Maybe that will help someone, maybe not.
