In order to be competitive kids will need to feel good when they step on the mat, and they will not be able to feel good if they are cutting weight. Imagine cutting 15 pounds and then having to wrestle right after stepping off the scale. If someone wants to be competitive with matside weigh ins they would HAVE to avoid weight cuts.
Right now most successful wrestlers are losing a lot of weight before matches, and the system in place allows them to have an hour or two to recover so that when they step on the mat they are weighing 3-5 pounds more than the weight class should allow.
