Fargo means nothing in the end. Kids from across the state are not all willing/wanting to wrestle and travel 6 days a week. This is not a “team” they are joining. It is a tournament they have qualified for where you enter by state instead of your team.
No one in our state association is paid. Every state does things a little differently. Most kids that are successful at Fargo on a national level are training 6 days a week at thier own club. Most of them have high level coaching. They are not competing as a state. Wisconsin kids are training with Askren. Iowa kids are training with Seabolt.
There is no correlation with doing well at Fargo and going on to be a high level college wrestler. Kyle Dake and Yanni never came home with a stop sign. Even some of our countries best FS and Greco wrestlers didnt do well at Fargo. Some kids who win multiple stop signs at Fargo get smashed in college because they were worried about the wrong things in high school. Look up Taylor Massa from Michigan.
Fargo is nothing more than another tournament. If you want your kid to do better get him to a place with our better high school coaches that go year round and have sent many kids to the next level who go on to get degrees. Most of them see the whole picture and aren’t just looking to make money.
