As much as I would like to mention the extremely tough first draws a number of the kids on our boys team faced(Last I checked 4 kids from one weight division matched up against the eventual finalists and semi-finalist), it simply comes down to the lack of preparation and expectation for the wrestlers.
I'm of the opinion that if a wrestler wants to do well they have to train with the other best wrestlers in their area on a regular basis. This has not happened due to distance for some, lack of cohesion amongst club teams, and lack of coordination and communication by the program.
How good could the coaching be when most of the kids had never met the coaches? How good could the kids get if they are not training with each other 4-6 days a week?
The results speak for themselves.
In no way am I suggesting this is easy to get done, but currently the bare minimum is the approach.
That is not good enough to win or place.
