I think it is a matter of wants vs. needs and one generation vs. the next.

People really need to learn to differentiate needs vs. wants and prioritize. Is it great to go to a tournament far away? Yes, but at what cost and sacrifice if you do not have the money? My feeling is that you do not spend money on wants unless you have the money. If you feel it is that important, you sacrifice your own resources and not even ask anyone for theirs. People need to learn to spend wisely and sending your kid to a tournament that you can't afford just makes them feel entitled to it at significant cost.
This leads to the next principle of entitlement. When I grew up, I worked for everything and didn't get it unless I earned it with my own money or work. It seems as if our generation has gotten soft and gives their children everything at a great sacrifice to things that are important. Doing this for your children will give them a great sense of entitlement so they will sacrifice some of their needs in order to get their wants. Because our welfare system is such a crutch for many, they may spend their money on a wrestling tournament because they don't have to pay for health insurance or don't buy car insurance. It's a terrible system and will continue to enable people to misprioritize these things. I don't think it will get better anytime soon and only seems to be getting worse.
