2. Yes, I like this more and more lately, also takes away some of the gamesmanship that takes place on the edge of the mat.
3. I would like it, doubt our state will make it happen.
4. No
5. Yes
6. Absolutely. I think that each individual league should have a designated weight certification person who is not connected to the schools.
- I have been in multiple high schools "rooms" during this process and I can tell you it is not done consistently across the board. I think formalizing it more would help to keep everything accurate.
7. I don't like the 50% rule but I was a fan of having a minimum number of outings (I think it use to be 3 or 5) to qualify for the weight. The problem with this is that some decent plans wont let an athlete get down to their post season weights until the week before or the week of in which case there is no time to get matches in.
- Perhaps a nice compromise is to make weight decent plans available to view by all coaches with a log in for the system. A few years ago I could go in and pull up any WIAA school and see the decent plans for any athlete. This year that is not the case. That would make it nice for athletes who are deciding what weight is best for them in postseason. It would not let you know for sure what weight people are at but it at least lets you know the options someone would have.
In general, more transparency on these things are beneficial all the way around IMO. One thing I would be a HUGE fan of is having track (or something else) be used for all events to put the results into and then come postseason those results are used for seeding. I have sat in numerous seeding meetings where coaches present records that don't make sense, and then adjust it when called out on it or they "forgot" a kid missed a dual and it was actually someone else who wrestled that night. It would also help coaches track kids match count easier (when a coach reports a record of 37-12 at a seeding meeting it is hard to believe any data is correct). Again more transparency isn't going to hurt in any way when it comes to things like weight certs, seeding, etc. IMO
