I started this site over 20 years ago. When it first hit it's prime it was something really new to a lot of people and many of them had so idea of how to properly express themselves in public and lots of crazies were here. It made for entertaining discussions, which I miss, but it also lead to lots of deletions and banning of users that just couldn't control themselves and made posts consisting of misinformation, unfounded allegations or just plain lies.
Some people said I didn't delete or ban enough and others said I was "censoring" freedom of speech way too much. Riding the middle ground was tough. This was way before Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or even MySpace(RIP) but look at the managing of users that all of these platforms are now doing. It is so strange in watching this unfold over the years. Many back then blamed the "evil message board" for the behavior of certain posters when in reality it was/is just a platform that a certain percent tried/try to abuse. We don't see that here much anymore but you sure see it in the other areas of social media, especially the past few years. I see certain people on Facebook that say they routinely get put in Facebook jail for 30 days at a time. How do you get thrown off of Facebook multiple times? Seriously? They can't control themselves even using a Facebook account that says who you are and shows your face? People will never cease to amaze me.
I can only hope that people here will continue to respect the privacy of others and try not to spread misinformation as we get enough of that through so many channels is this day and age.
