The second risk, which is somehow getting grouped into the first, is the risk of being infected. There is definitely proof that a mask helps from getting infected. It is hard to believe that anyone questions this. I think of wearing a mask when working with chemical fumes, welding galvanized, silica dust from concrete, all the medical professionals, etc. The studies are endless and the people using masks to protect themselves or others (medical field) are endless. How is this all of a sudden wrong? I know mask wearing in all those professions won't stop even after this virus is long gone, it is a given fact of how they work.
In the end, the question isn't if the mask works, but what is your risk tolerance for your or your child's health vs benefits of wrestling. At this point I'm OK with some risk as more vaccinated to limit the spread and my son is wrestling without a mask. But if he has to wear one to have a match, then I know he will do it and figure out a way to be successful.
