There is a possibility (although slim) for some sort of State tournament if a lot of things were to fall into place. I had been reached out to by a few AD's, coaches and dad's asking if I would do it. Honestly, it boils down to what county could hold it and what phase they were in, along with an available venue. Biggest thing is who pays for the venue, refs, staff, insurance, etc. Right now sponsorship is tough after the year businesses had and without a good number of gate fees the funds are not there for a large event. Getting mats would probably be easy as many coaches would donate them, even probably drop off and pick up. I am sure Newby (won't fully speak for him here) would do his best to make it happen for electronics and streaming. Lastly, even if only coaches and wrestlers were in the building in order to keep the numbers allowed it might be a 4 day event (set up, weigh-ins, wrestling, break down) or if by a long shot there were multiple venues to hold a one or two day event for each classification. As fans I know we'd all like to see it but the wrestlers (especially seniors) would be deserving. It would be quite a project and only if we are in phases to allow for it. Lastly, if USAW were to partner in this endeavor (as opposed to WIAA) it would allow for the match counts not to be a factor and you could essentially run it in 1 day for each classification. So many factors and it really sucks to even have this conversation for the wrestlers who deserve a State opportunity.
