Hi
I have this 2.9 T6 twin turbo petrol with suspected blown turbo (never seen so much smoke). It looks like a virtual impossible task to remove with the engine in the car.You cant even see them from underneath.
Has anyone any idea what sort of a job it is and any times?
I might have to swerve this one!

Thanks

Colin

Hi Colin,
Whats your email address, I have removal/fitting instructions for an XC90 T6 twin turbo 2005 engine code B6294T - if that's any help to you.

Regards
Dave
Autodata gives 7.40 to remove/refit both turbos !

Hi Dave
Thanks for the reponse, I'm at cphedger@hotmail.co.uk
7.4 hrs sounds nonsense, unless I'm missing something?

Colin.

Hi Colin

This is from UKAT WorkshopData, not sure how it differs fro Autodata. 5.9 for both and 4.8 for one at my labour rate

Peter

Thanks Peter, interesting.
I obviously was missing something!
I'm still interested to see what Daves got before I commit.

Colin.

Email sent Colin.

Thanks so much to Peter and Dave for the information.
Having studied the Vadis instruction that you sent Dave, I still think I am missing something. I looked at the car again and couldnt see what they meant by the lower crossmember. As for 6 hours, well I think I would struggle at 16 hours!
You cant see anything from underneath, it looks like its maybe a 'Tom Cruise' mission impossible job dangling from the ceiling to remove them from the top!
Maybe its one of those jobs that just looks worse than it actually is?
I'm not even sure yet that it needs a turbo! but from what I've seen so far it all points to that. I dont know if I really want to do it, I'm too old to be lying across an engine block looking like my cocks caught in the radiator filler!

Colin.

Well I took a deep breath and decided to attack this job (its now my car as the customer decided to scrap it due to estimated repair cost).
Its been waiting for the Summer 'lull' that seems to get longer each year.
Working without pressure I reckon it took about 6 hrs just to remove both turbo's.A lot longer to remove additional items and assessment i.e cat and downpipes, sump, oil strainer, rocker cover.
So far 2 dead turbos ('black death' oil abuse) possible cat damage and I still havent assessed the amount of oil in the intercooler and exhaust.
Obviously not worth doing as a customer car but I'm tempted to go ahead and repair it using secondhand turbo's.I'm going to try 'washing' the cat out with petrol - what do you think?
Has anyone tried rebuilding thier own turbo using the £150 new 'cartridges' they sell on Ebay?

Colin.

We quite often use cartridges without any problems. We mainly use the brand 'Jrone' which is Chinese but the quality seems to be great.
