Alfa Romeo Spider T-Spark 2.0 2000 - Immobiliser fault #

Year of Manufacture *: 2000
( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: 2.0 T-spark

Customer reports that engine started briefly then cut out.
Fault codes are
P0170 Mixture bank 1
P0130 upstream lambda sensor
P1653 phase variator
U1600 key invalid.
The amber key light stays on and the injection lamp goes out briefly and comes back on when the ignition is cycled.
I have measured the key reader coil at approx 3.3 Ohms. I have removed the immobiliser and checked for dry joints and power.I have had five diagnostic tools on it, Sykes ACR, Delphi, Solus, Multiscan and Launch. None of these offer comms with the immobiliser. Without any comms with the immobiliser it is going to be difficult to narrow this one down. Is there any aftermarket tool that is likely to talk to the immobiliser? Or is it so early it doesn't support diagnostics?

If you have access to Alldata Europe,there is info on system operation and test procedures.Look under section "alfa romeo Code system"

Thanks for the replies,
I have all the keys, two red and one brown master key. Even the master key doesn't start it.
I have found and downloaded the Alfa Workshop manual for it, which gives some useful info (to be fair I haven't looked yet to see if the Alfa tool will talk to it).

Hello Shaun,
This is only from memory

but does this flavour of Alfa have an immobiliser code card system like Fiat's of that age 4 digit PIN I think, if so you can use that to get the car started.

I would also check the engine fuse box for the relay spades backing out of the relay spades and fuses come to that (it's a Fiat thing!!) For my sins I'm blessed with a Works Fiat Doblo

I don't know the resistance of the key coil but they are known to give problems.

Depends which fiat code system it is runnng but on some you talk to immobiliser through the management Ecu, is that system talking?
