ATE MK 60 ABS/DSC system

Hi, in ABS/DSC car has logged DTC 5E43 Steering angle sensor, internal.
Live data showed it stuck at -3.8°, tried reset procedure a number of times without success.
Have replaced steering angle sensor and fault remains as before.
I have since noticed that there is a separate Steering Angle Sensor (LWS) system, the same DTC is logged but this clears and the live data is reading correctly.

The steering angle sensor has 6 wires, 2 for CAN and 1 to the ABS/DSC control unit, Autodata does not show the other 2 wires on any wiring diagram.
When viewing the data etc via LWS am I seeing it through the CAN network?
So when looking at it through ABS/DSC and it is stuck data and won't re-align could this point to a faulty ABS/DSC control unit?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Martin.

Hi Martin,

From memory - your ABS is complaining about not getting the data from the SAS. This will be on the HS can. Scope the can at ABS and SAS.

Pins 1 and 2 NVB fused 3 and 4 Can. Pin 6 have a look at signal to ABS via Dash MFCU glove box and DLC - 5 is ground.

The only other nodes on this is PCM and TCM and they're probably not concerned with the info so not flagging faults.

Have you done calibration/adaption on new SAS in ABS/DSC?

Note:
Steering angle sensor adjustment must be carried out:
Before adjustment work on the front axle/steering
after all mechanical work on the steering system
E46 (all-wheel drive), E53, E83: after disconnecting the battery
after replacement / coding / programming of the following components:
Fixture for switches of steering column / switch cluster / steering angle sensor
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) control unit
Control unit active anti-roll stabilization (ARS)

Global scan to be sure no other can complaints.

General state of the car and "add-ons"

Hope this is of help. - you really need wiring diagrams.

Thanks for the info Simon, much appreciated, Martin.

Simon, found that the NBV +30 on pin 1 of the SAS was zero, fuse had been removed, now ok.
SAS pin 2 +15 Ig. on ok, scoped CAN at SAS and ABS and both good.
Scoped the signal, SAS pin 6, at pin 8 of the DLC and at pin 2 of ABS and have got 10.28v at both.
I'm not sure what type of signal I am expecting to see but constant 10.28v doesn't seem right?
Will check SAS pin 5 ground next.

Also, have noticed that when communicating with the ABS the DSC light is on but not the ABS light, odd?

Thanks, Martin.

Many thanks Simon, I'll post fix when I get there.

Martin.

It turns out that the new SAS has to be coded in, had someone locally who did that, all ok now.

Thanks for your help, Martin.
