Digital service records - General #

Year of Manufacture *: 2016

I got my first enquiry about carrying out the digital service record/log for a Vauxhall today, although it was only a matter of time before I was asked this for any vehicle.
Can anyone enlighten me on how this works (for all makes), what the criteria is and how I would go about doing it? Does it cost? (apart from extra time?)
Sounds like another nail in the coffin for 1 man businesses, or am I wrong?
Any help appreciated thanks.

They're a complete pain as every manufacturer has its own portal. We've used Land-Rover, VAG, Mazda etc. and it takes nearly as long to update the record as it does to change the oil. If someone was to do some decent tutorials on the various systems it would be really useful for everyone.

Thanks for the reply Richard.
So, twenty minutes for an oil change then half an hour of buggering about on a website thats has some sort of a problem.Who pays for that then?
I was really hoping for a much bigger response from everyone to this query, but maybe its just not technical enough?
I carried out my own straw poll by ringing 5 mates in the trade and NONE of them bother with it - even if the car is still in warranty! I guess that means - thankfully I'll do the same.

We do it and have registered with a number of brands, Cant give exact details of how each brand works as my Brother does it.

Not new idea as Mazda have done this for many years, also has the advantage you can look up previous service details which is of course helpful if new customer

I would be very concerned about servicing car under warranty and not completing record. Like wise you are seriously devaluing resale value of car if service record is incomplete. Most systems wont let you back date records (above a few days) so needs doing at the time.

We charge customer £7.50 to up load info to digital service record shown as a separate item on the invoice. Not a big profit maker but should cover 1/2 wage of admin staff.
