Fiesta 1.4 2003 - Bosch Parkpilot #

Year of Manufacture *: 2003

Hi I have this 53' Fiesta (7000 mls from new!) which has a Bosch parkpilot revs sensor system fitted.
It has one long continous tone when you put it in reverse.
Dealer says its aftermarket but the owner says it was on it from new so I think that maybe it was dealer fitted before delivery.
Can anyone help with diagnosis please?
As I expected, the scanner doesnt see it.
If nothing else a description/wiring diagram would be useful.

A long tone would indicate a fault with one or more of the sensors.Have you done a "listen test" (put your ear to each sensor in turn,and listen for the crackle).Wiring is simple.Positive supply from reverse light circuit,an earth supply,and 3 wires to each of the sensors.

hi Colin
If you have a picoscope they do a type of wand for reverse sensors, have used one and it does what it says on the tin.

A wet finger just slightly touching the sensor also works, you can feel the pulses

The good sensors crackle.The Bosch parkpilot system was a very popular aftermarket dealer fitment of this era, on many cars.(used to fit loads on Vauhall and Honda).The only issue you may have is getting replacement parts.It is now cheaper to fit a complete new system,but check the sensor hole diameter first.Don't need Pico,use a cheap stethoscope.

Andrew,
Presumably the good sensors crackle, but only when the sytem is turned on and in reverse - but can you hear that above the beeping?
I'll try that Monday, but if successful can I get the componants from Ford or elsewhere - the dealer did'nt really know what I was talking about?

Hello Colin, any Bosch components should have a Bosch part number stamped on them so available through any Bosch distributors.

Thats a fair comment Alan.
Just looking for an easy way out on Monday.
The Ford dealer may have them in stock if they know what I am talking about wheras my Bosch supplier will have to get them in.

Stethoscope and wet member gave me nothing.No noise or tingle finger, so I assume its probably the module.
I was horrified at the dealer cost of the Module and the sensors, so buying from Ford was not an option.
I discussed other options with the customer and they decided to leave it for now, but I might come back to it later.
Thanks for all suggestions anyway.

Hello Colin,
You have to be very light with your touch

Just hover over the top of the sensor and let the wetness on your finger make contact with the sensor (to fill the air gap, so to speak) don't let your finger physically touch the senor, you will loose the sensation if you do

.

Or the other way is to touch the sensor with your wet finger and very slowly move it away from the sensor to achieve the very slight air gap
