Hi folks, I'm struggling to make progress on this one. Renault Scenic 3 petrol 1600, 2011 model. There are 3 switches on the clutch pedal. One at the top of the clutch pedal travel, & one at the bottom, then there is potentiometer type position sensor
Handbrake warning on the dashboard. Using DEC we retrieved Fault C1166 - Clutch pedal sensor, 1 def. The switch at the top of pedal travel had already been replaced with a genuine Renault part. Measuring the % travel of the position sensor in live data it looked like there was a drop out part way up its travel, and if I worked the pedal several times I could induce a fault code. New (genuine Renault) position sensor fitted all seemed fine. Now some weeks later the owner popped back in with it. The position sensor measures from 80% with foot off the clutch pedal to 16% when fully depressed on the clutch pedal. The parking brake releases exactly as it should etc, but after about 5 seconds or of releasing the clutch pedal the warning message comes back on and logs the code C1166 - clutch position sensor - def 1. If you press the pedal down about 3/4 of the way down (at 27%) the message clears. Both the upper and lower switch seem to be working, if I set the sensor up so that it only registers 67% at the top of its travel then the fault doesn't log, but the parking brake auto release doesn't work correctly (I'm not surprised by that as the reported pedal position is affected). On live data I cant find anything to tell me if the top and bottom travel switches are reporting correctly to the ECU.
Has anybody else had this problem? Can anyone confirm my position sensor readings are correct? Can any one tell me where the parking brake ECU is on these Scenic 3's (not strapped to the rear axle with the motor like the Scenic 2's. The parking brake motors are built into the calipers)
Thanks in hopeful anticipation
Nick

What system are you getting the C1166 code? I'm not conversant with Renault, assuming it's abs, could the other switch data be in bcm or engine. At the point of trigger is it because the correlation with one of the other switches is incorrect? E.g. the abs is seeing potentiometer movement, but engine ecu is still seeing clutch pedal pressed via bottom switch?
