VW Polo 1.4 CGGB 2013 - Code 17069 ECM Power Relay Control Circuit #

Year of Manufacture *: 2013
( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: cggb 1.4

17069 - ECM Power Relay Control Circuit P0685 - 000 - Open Circuit - Intermittent - MIL ON
Hi. This car will intermittently log the above fault code and put on the engine light but will always start no problem and has no running issues.
We cannot replicate the fault but it happens every few days.
We have renewed the relay. We have also checked the engine compartment for any obvious chaffing of the loom. We have checked the relay control wire from the fuse plate to the ecu using volt drop. The battery tests ok also and the engine cranks at good speed.
My thoughts are that the relay is obviously working ok as the car starts and runs.
Is it possible that there is a software update or an internal ecu fault?
Not sure how the ecu monitors the relay control?
Does it monitor the voltage feedback on the control wire?
Any suggestions would be great as I'm running out of ideas.

Have you looked on the Ross Tech wiki site ?

Suggests looking at the re/black wire on pin 15 at ecu for loss of supply/volt drop ! (although its a different model)

I can't find a technical bulletin specifically for the DTC you have logging, but looking through my DTC reports i've managed to get rid of it in the past with a software update.

The CGGB had a few software issues and the latest software version available for all versions of the 03C906024 software is currently 9971.

So if yours is an ECU with software part number 03C906024 with a couple of letters after it and it has a software version preceeding 9971, I would get it updated.

A VW dealer or independent competent with ODIS would be able to do this update.

Thanks for the replies Dave and Jon.
Our software part number is 03C906024BH and version number 8994 so I think the first thing to do would be to get the software update done.
I did see that on the Ross Tech site Dave but was unsure if it would be the same as our car due to it being a different model but maybe worth a look if we're still having problems.

Hi
We advised the customer to have the software update carried out on this car but haven't heard back from them yet. Hopefully we will as this is a regular customer.
