VW Golf CAXA 1.4 2012 - DSG no drive, codes 001851 & 001850 #

Year of Manufacture *: 2012
( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: CAXA 1390cc 7 speed DSG OAM

47,000 miles
Codes
001851 gear 6 not selectable
001850 gear 5 not selectable

If I clear codes and cycle key off/on it will select "R" and move backwards. As soon as "D" is selected faults reset. There is no hint of forward motion at any time.

Using VCDS(have KTS but not tried it yet)
Ross Tech wiki has no info on these codes.

I have viewed actual data blocks, nothing stands out but admit to no experience of faults on these.

My thoughts are clutch problem unlikely due to mileage and reverse proves one. Also codes relate to odd and even gears.

VCDS offers a basic setting and calibration routine. Do DSG's need this due to wear?

Anyone come across this?

Hi Phil
Had exactly same on a fabia last month was taken back to dealers .They thought broken selectors and were going to strip box,Havent heard results but I will try to contact customer today

Have tried to perform basic settings but requirements cannot be met.
Am on the point of sending it to the dealer..

HI Phil just heard back ,The dealer told her that the mecatronic could not be separated from the box,so the whole unit mecatronic and gearbox had to be replaced at a final bill of £4268.00.
WOW....it had done only 53k miles....she wont buy another. the internet is full of similar woes.

Thanks for that Steve.
This one is still with us. The customer is a business that doesn't belive in much maintenance, usually running vehicles until major problems then px or auction. Don't think they will get much for this one.
Aren't modern cars shite to own!

I got told by a mate at skoda that there is a plastic bearing case in the selectors that breaks. Skoda are now repairing them.

I was also told of somebody in Liverpool who was specializing in them if that's any use.
