Fiat Punto 1.3 JTD 2014 - Alternator charging fault - Unresolved #

Year of Manufacture *: 2014

Hello all just after bit of advice. Got a 2014 punto in the garage that had oil contamination on alternator cut long story short alternator was meant to be repaired new slip rings and regulator it really had new reg brushes and the slip rings were still worn. Now the original unit is Valeo I have fitted a denso alternator only for the thing to work back to front. When the battery is charged you get the alternator out putting 14v when the battery voltage is low it doesn't charge I have a feeling this is the wrong alternator anyone have any thought would be much apriciated. Btw the Lin wire reads fine back to the ecu and when I put his original unit back on it doesn't charge at all

Whats wrong with a genuine Fiat part either now or better still at the start of the problem ?

Who is thinking they are saving money/ trouble ?

With it being a driving school car it is out of warranty mileage wise. And also a unit off fiat is on back order with no eta. But I have located a valeo unit from a supplier so I am going to do a like for like swap today. Just strange the way the denso alternator charges when the battery is full charge for 5 min and when the battery goes bellow 12v refuses to charge got to be different voltage regulator

Hi guys fitted a valeo alternator tonight seems better but to me not great. When you put the wipers and that on it charges at 13.2 Volts but at idle it sits just above 12v shortly got to be higher even with smart charge

Have you checked for voltage drop on + & Earth from alternator ?

No that actually is my next test I think there might be a earth problem with the ecu because on its I have 13.9v but at battery post it is 14.2 bit of a difference. Now really if I have a lower reading at the ecu on the kts shorly that must mean my charge rate should be higher because the voltage is low strange one and anyone opinion will be much appreciated

Hello Alan thanks for response new battery fitted still the same am not really convinced it is ecu problem either because the characteristics of the denso and valeo alternators are so different the valeo one btw is still aftermarket because fiat cannot get me one also it has a voltage stabiliser for stop start which I Cannot locate? On the other hand I would like to see another punto to get readings of the Lin wire for refrance

I would not be concerned to much about the voltage readings, Charge is current. Put an ammeter in the system to see what the charge actually is.

well guys car gone into fiat and........... they dont no what is wrong with it haha a load of my as they are it can only be the wrong alternator or the lin signal is wrong but i doubt they even no how to use a oscilloscope haha.
