Timing chains / brake discs - All #

Quite often references are made to timing chains 'stretching' and brake discs 'warping'
I suppose, in the interests of accuracy, if we are professionals talking to customers, then perhaps we should get it right.
Roller chains suffer from pin and bushing wear which changes their pitch, but the metal doesn't stretch.
Likewise, brakes discs suffer from thickness variation or uneven run-out, but the metal can't warp.

too much information for the customer,

i find that most people can get there head around , " sorry luv your brakes are F*&ked and and its £300.00 if you value your kids lives"

That is straight from the manufacturers bulletin, I feel 'stretched' is a commonly used term that can be appreciated by the customer as is the term 'warped'. Maybe to satisfy the needs of pedants the term unserviceable could be employed?

To get pedantic about this seems a little pointless?? We could go on all day disputing terms used, why bother?

Start talking like that to customers they instantly think your hiking the price up. I have found and always will total honest a/b/c talk say it as it is instills more confidence in them. they dont need professional engineering terms.

Interesting replies guys thanks. Maybe I am too pedantic. In fairness I don't have a 'one size fits all' approach to customers. I tend to pitch the technical level according to the customer. That said, I avoid profanity, even if the customer uses it.
