Hyundai - Diagnostic plug in engine bay #

Hi, I have noticed recently that Hyundai's have another Diagnostic plug under the bonnet, not regular 16 pin shape either.
Can anyone give any info on this?

Hello Martin,
Don't know about now, but back in the day the under bonnet diagnostic socket was the true manufacturers socket for Japanese/Asian vehicles.
You could flash code read all sorts of modules by bridging different terminals . The DL16/ obd/eobd socket was only fitted to meet regional areas legal requirements around the world.
So maybe the same applies today

Hi Martin
Gsan have connectors for this type of plug comes in there full kit, the connector in the kit is blue in colour, and if my memory is correct the blue lead superceded the black lead.

Don't quote me on this but I always thought or led to believe that this socket (same with toyota) was used with the dealer tool which when plugged in to this socket allowed more functions to be carried out.

functions such as timing adjustment, idle speed adjustment etc and the 16pin socket was for complience allowing engine dtc's etc to be read.

Isn't this also similar to BMW of around 2000 year where they have both 20 pin and 16pin diagnostic ports. ABS codes can be read via 20 pin but not 16 pin.

As others have said. It's a 20-pin Manufacturers diagnostic plug. It's used for programming during the vehicles build. The older variants would only have comms to things like abs, immobiliser and auxiliary modules through the 20 pin rather than the 16 pin. 16 pin was only for EOBD/OBD11 as far as Koreans were concerned
