Peugeot 206 1.4 Auto 2003 - Occasional non start #

( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: 1.4 Automatic

Hi All, Been called out 3 times over last 3 months ,No fault codes but if we take off the earth lead and reconnect its starts and will be ok for days sometimes weeks. Not connected but has had a new battery and starter recently. Car unlocks and turns over but fails to start ,customer has lost faith in it left it with us while on holiday for 2 weeks and of course it never failed for us he had it back 3 days and no go. Hoping for a silver bullet!

Hi Steve,

When you attended the vehicle as a non-start, did you ever find out what was missing to cause the non-start? Ie.....fuel, spark etc?

Hi Steve

Had a similar issue a few years ago with a 1.4, 206 had the same starting fault, turned out to be a duff starter drawing too much power.

Hi
when you went out to it (x3), what clues did you get before doing a battery reset e.g from live data, did the fuel pump prime?
fault codes in other control units.

Always a pain intermittent faults.

I'd be chucking a crank sensor at it. Normally starts off as an intermittent fault. Never any codes etc..

Apart from trying to find if it's fuel, spark etc.Will it start from a bump? this might help rule out a current hungry or noise generating starter motor. (I seem to remember Escorts and Fiestas would fail to start due to starter motor interference getting on the crank sensor signal.)
