Chrysler Grand Voyager 2.8 CRD 2007 - Electrical issue #

Hi,
Got this one in with a strange electrical issue, when you turn on the headlamps they flicker and shut off the heater fan and it knocks the autobox out of gear. It only happens for a few seconds then everything including lights work fine!
Checked all earths and alternator and battery seem good!
Any help please?

Hi Tony,
Good idea but he is a good customer so I feel I should attempt a fix if possible. Today I put a low amps clamp on the battery and when fault occurs I get a surge of 6 amps so not a huge amount and not enough for a short! Next step was check relay but as usual on modern engineering it's built into the underbonet fuse box!
Going to open it tomorrow and see if I can see anything!

Hello Shane, If you still suspect a short check the wiring loom where it goes near (or through) the front gearbox mount. Also the loom at the front of the block at cam belt end is in metal "P" clips that cut into the loom. The ones I've done have both been the old shape but both had auto box selection issues.

Only got one voyager on my books now, that is one too many, horrible pieces of rubbish owned by families with no money, I give them a 20 minute look and pass them on, no money to be made with those pigs !!

My first thought would be to see what the customer's financial commitment is to the problem.
Having warned them the bill could be well into the hundreds and you will charge, fix or not, then it may be worth a go. I had one with a chafe on the LINbus wire under the IPDM under the bonnet, when the driver put their foot down to accelerate the headlights went out! could be anything like this. The wiring on these is awful.
I've also had supply wires under here with corrosion causing a high resistance, get the loom open and have a look.

Hi,
Open IPM and there is some damage on the circuit board and slight burning. Ordered a secondhand unit so time will time when fitted!
