Vauxhall Meriva 1.6 2004 - ESP light on and no power steering #

Good evening all,

Just a quick one ! ,I have a Vauxhall Meriva in
with the usual EPS light on and no powered steering.

New battery on the vehicle as I know that low battery voltage can also cause this.

Fault code and live data is showing a fault with the torque sensor built into the column.

A very well known common fault. But the vehicle is too old now for Vauxhall to replace FOC, as they were doing a while ago.

Now my main question is is that my customer wants me to fit a used column, but I'm not sure if they need coding or un-pairing off the old vehicle.

Can used ones be fitted 'plug n play'? And has anyone ever just replaced the torque sensor as they are available ?

Have you checked with vauxhall to see if its still covered by the recall?

I had one done 2 months ago, FOC by the local dealer.

Thanks for the reply,

I haven't checked myself with Vauxhall.

But I have scoured the net for info and apparently if its over 8 years old then they wont replace.

What year was yours ?

is the torque sensor the part that sits below the column held on with torx screws like on a Corsa C.

If so they are adjustable iirc.

Hi Lee,

As far as I'm aware they're built into the actual column/mech themselves and aren't adjustable.

Not Sure if they are like the Corsa C's

I'm getting live data from the torque sensors and only one of them is changing with steering wheel position.

The one I have in question is also a 54 plate. I'll be making a call to the VM on Monday morning !
