this belongs to a customer of mine and although there is nothing wrong with the car i would like to be able to diagnose it when it goes wrong. the diagnostic port is in the engine bay by the left and it looks like it could be a 17 pin plug. i have tried a 17 pin from my old multiscan and although it fits in i get no comms not sure if the the plug is wrong of my old multiscsn does't cover it.my maxisys says it does the ipsum which is the same but it does't have a plug to fit. is anyone familiar with this old toyota and knows what adapter i need to get?

I know its no Picnic But, I own an old Toyota Paseo and as Aiden says You can flash read the codes by bridging various terminals for different systems.
I can't remember off the top of my head which ones but old Autodata Diagnostic books give details.
I've owned the Paseo the best part of 18 years and have never needed to Flash code read it for an engine fault.
The only time I did I was just pratting about.

So I wouldn't have any sleepless nights on this one
