Mini Cooper S R57 2009 - Whining noise when revved #

Hi

I've got a Mini cooper s 2009 1.6 turbo, with a whining noise when revved up from the lower front of the engine.

The noise sounds exactly like an auxiliary belt pulley / alternator whine.

I removed the drive belt and the noise is still there.

The noise is coming from the inside the sump !

Going to remove the sump and inspect the timing chain etc, but I'm not sure I'm going to see anything.

Anyone had any dealings with this engine or suggestions?

I am no expert on these,but I believe these have an "on demand" oil pump.Looks interesting.

We have had a few of these, all with fairly high mileage.

All have had wining symptoms like you describe.
Serviced several times & had no running issues of which i would take it as a charateristic of the vehicle.

Although i cannot know how severe your symptoms are!
