Hi guys, I'm looking for some help with this one. The customer has been on holiday for two weeks and on return the car would not start due to flat battery, we tried jump start and when the ignition is cycled the fuel pump is heard priming and the engine will start and run for a second then cut out and safe is displayed in the instrument cluster?

We tried both keys read fault codes and we have 17978 engine control unit blocked - permanent in the engine dtc's and B104A00 engine control module not identified - permanent in the immobiliser dtc's.

I have since fitted a new battery as it tested dud, tried holding the positive and negative terminals together for ten seconds to reset all memories but still no joy. I can recall having the Same thing with a golf about ten years ago and it was a simple immobiliser adaptation to fix it but not sure what channel it was or if this will be the same?

Not much help but on earlier vag systems when this happened you had to leave ignition on for at least half hour then if you were lucky it would reset.

Think this was the same if you had swapped ecu's as well. Maybe worth a shot.

What code reader ? Have you done a global code read (ie is there a code in instruments ?) Have you checked the code 17978 in ross-tech ?

Have you asked the customer if he or anyone else tried to jump this before you.

Thanks for your reply, I used Autocom to do a global scan and these were the only two codes apart from voltage related to the flat battery. All codes cleared but these two return after crank, I did have a quick look on Ross wiki but will have a better dig around and will also try leaving the ignition on for a while Lee.
