Volvo V50 1.6D 2010 - Stop start in traffic is erratic - Ongoing #

( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: diesel 1.6

Hi just a quick one,
Had a car in today for service. 1.6 diesel Volvo v50.

The customer told me his stop start in traffic was irratic, when in traffic the engine would keep running unless he had driven for a long journey then it would work. He thought this could be because one of the batteries is failing? When doing service I checked the battery and it was fine.

Auto data said there was only one battery this was under bonnet. Defiantly not one in boot.

Not too familiar with stop start on diesels, Any help or thoughts appreciated.

Hi

I'm no expert, but global scan would be the place to start.

In my limited experience, almost any fault code in any system can / will disable stop / start.

As an example I had a Air con comms issue that disabled stop / start on a VAG vehicle.

Hi reported my finding to customer but have found no more,
No codes with global scan so till I hear more from customer??

i think that stop start feature is only available when battery voltage is over a set amount .

so if there is a high load demanded from vehicle , i.e. air con lights etc , and car is crawling along in traffic, stop start would be disabled after short time.
