Vauxhall Astra 1.4 2009 - Loss of power, no compression on 1/2 - Diagnosed #

( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: 1400

Hi has anyone had problems with the 1400 engines. this car has
just done 22200 miles only driving down the m/way and he felt a
Shudder on the engine and a loss of power. towed back to garage.
we did a compression check. and no compression on 1-2 cyls
3-4 200 ibs. and is also chain driven. we are doing a cylinder
leakage check in the morning. and is the 16 valve engine and not
8 valve.

Found fault

Two of the slippers had jumped out and jammed under the cam and two valves bent, so head off and replacing cam
chain and tensioners.

Not bad for a 22200 mile engine?

Had a 1000cc 48,000mile Corsa in this week with a misfire. The customer insisted that I check the manifolds first as he was convinced that the manifold was causing the miss. We did so knowing that this wasn't the issue but following customers instructions we smoked the manifolds and no leaks. I then asked him for another half hours labour as you could hear the engine was lacking compression. A compression test a cylinder leak test and pull the cam cover of and the inlet cam was bust in two. Cylinder 3 inlet valves are never going to open if the cam if not attached

You should not expect that at less than 50,000. Oh well it keeps us in work

I guess the end cam cap was loose and cam shaft broke due to not being supported.

The end cam cap was broken. One of the bolts had sheered off in the head which I'm guessing caused the issue.
