Landrover Discovery III 2.7 TD V6 - Timing issues #

( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: 2700

Hi has anyone ever timed up a 2.7 tdv6 engine.The predicament i have is that autodata says time engine on TDC NO 1 CYLINDER.I have the cylinder heads removed, and have noted that when timing pin is located into flywheel,no 1 piston is not fully on TDC, about 8mm down bore(will come up to correct height/rod not bent)...is this normal????...Nigel.

Hi Nigel

I have no experience of this engine but would say it is not unheard of for timing pin position to be located off TDC.

It quite logical as it prevents risk of valve contact when rotating cams.

Can you pin a cam and see if the valve over lap also looks slightly over to ?

Just use the timing pin inserted above the starter, & the two timing pins inserted in each cam boss,

Nigel are you defo using correct pin as there are 2 different ones depending on auto or manual?? Just a thought !
