Audi Q7 3.0 TDi 2007 Fitting non standard battery #

Year of Manufacture *: 2007
( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: 3.0 tdi

Anyone tried fitting a non standard (Varta) battery without the serial code on one of these vehicles, or does it have to be the genuine battery?

Thank's for that Aidan, We fitted the battery and I did some searching and it would seem that you can use another serial of another battery of the same type, they say that the charge control module sees the new serial and changes it's charge strategy for a new battery. However after changing the battery when I went into the coding function Vag-com reported "this item does not support coding" does that mean it doesn't have to be coded? I checked the vehicle out and after the test drive ESP lamps extinguished so everything seems normal (I hope).
