New van options? #

Hi all. Looking to down size from my vito which I bought new in 08. Looking at caddy / connect size but Euro 5 and 6 have turned most Diesel engines I see, unreliable and just not economic to run. The ford petrol option is a 1 litre lump that must be so stressed to give the power output figures it does, I can't see it lasting. The small Merc van is using a 1.2 petrol engine from the Clio ! Don't think Vag offer a petrol option. Wouldn't trust anything French or Italian, am struggling really. Any thoughts anyone please?

What about last of the old shape Connect ?Plenty of 13/14 used with low miles.Its the old 1.8 lynx tdci engine ,basic but durable.Petrol engine in a van looks like a difficult choice.

I wouldn't be put of by the 1litre from ford. It's a great advance in technology. I was speaking to a guy yesterday who used to have a 4L with 88bhp! So at one point the thought of a 2L producing 100bhp would have been a worry.

I really like the caddy maxi as a van, but the transit connect looks a great option too.

I wouldn't be put off the ford ecoboost, brilliant engine.Would have that than a vw or merc (re badged renault)

I take it the those suggesting the Eco-Boost Ford, haven't driven the 1.0 litre then....
In a Fiesta you have to ring it's neck, no low down torque at all!!

The 1.5/1.6 is okay in the Focus, but the new Transit Courier/Connect is only available with the 1.0 and imho, is way under-powered for the application.

That Ford engine also has a "hot oil" timing belt ,As the song goes ... There may be trouble ahead.

Interesting discussion, the first eco-boost Ford we had for servicing made me shudder, three cyls, four main bearings, same similar output as 1.6 Zetec and running on oil that is as thin as p**s! I'm afraid I'm old school you can't beat cubic capacity and Edge 10w60, it'll last forever! Diesels with DPF's are a no brainer as far as I'm concerned as well, and it seems that I'm not the only one, what does one buy these days?
