Peugeot 307 1.6 2006 - Air bag light on, code E698 or 1688 - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 2006
( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: 1560cc

Hi, This vehicle has the airbag light on.
Can anyone give me a clearer description of this fault code. I have read it with the following scan tools.
Autel - E698 row 1 pretensioner in series drivers and passenger high stop

Dec scan -1688 row 1 pretensioners in series fault driver and passenger.
The car was in last week for an MOT and failed. It is due back in for repairs so just wanted to get some info before it comes in.

Hi Phil

I got this on a Citroen owners site.

E698 Driver and passenger pretensioners in series fault : Open circuit

Have you looked at a wiring diagram?

I would suspect the drivers and passengers pretensioners are connected in series and the "high stop" refers to the high resistance limit and sets a code.

Remember it's French when you are distinguishing drivers side from passenger side.

Almost certainly connector under seat, probably a green one with red locking tab.
If you unplug it and reconnect fault usually clears.

Will want cutting out and hard wiring or it will come back within a week or so

Took out the front seats on this to have a good look. The pretensioners were part of the seat belt reel in the pillar. The wiring to the n/s/f had been repaired badly, once this was soldered the fault cleared.
