Land Rover Discovery 4 3.0 SD V6 - Replacing turbo #

Year of Manufacture *: 2010
( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: 3ltr sdv6

I have this disco in and have diagnosed turbo issues which means taking the body off for access.
Has anyone done one?
What are they like to do as I cannot believe autodata at nearly 12 hours

Hello Kelly,
The first time will take much longer. R/R V8TDi Sport

I'm an Old Fuddy Duddy

You need a 2 post ramp
Aircon will need de-gassing/re-gassing.
Brake hoses disconnecting/re-connect and bled.
Steering shaft to rack disconnecting.
Lights removing etc.
Fuel filler pipe
The multi connectors can be pain to disconnect.
If fitted with active stability anti roll bars check to see if the units are leaking as they may want them replacing whilst to body is off.
If normal anti roll its easier to replace "D" bushes now.

So to be on the super safe side I would do a scan of All systems first to make sure there are NO faults in any of the systems you are about to be disconnecting as you don't want to get into any "Its was all ok before" arguments

P.S Also check on condition of EGR valves as well.
I know they are ok to do on V6TDi, they are a bit tricky on the V8TDi.

Agree fully with Ian,
We found egr had failed, on same bank as the faulty turbo.
On 3.6 V8 diesel RR sport.

If you have not done one of these before you would be well advised to farm out to a specialist, I have a LR specialist 4 miles from me and his top tech has now got the body off job down to a day, you wont, it will probably take you two days, on top of that there are consequential parts to replace as well, best advice, farm out, you most definitely do not want the hassle involved in this horrible job !!!!!

Are you sure the turbo is at fault?
Many people incorrectly guess at a turbo due to codes & oil deposits, especially if it's the driver's side turbo.

I am fairly certain the rh turbo is down not just oil deposits but the whole air intake is swamped in oil the codes are for low boost and the maf the maf was drowned in oil and the air filter wet.
Has only done 45 k I have spoken to local dealer who agree it is most likely turbo they are trying to process a goodwill claim supposedly as it will be a week since they done it on Thursday

As far as I know this is its first ever repair.
Land Rover are offering him a goodwill gesture of 20% off his bill

Be careful if you are doing the job to check everything else first before renewing the turbo.

It is now with the dealers as a saving is a saving I have asked the customer to keep me posted as to what they do and he gets.

Did one some years ago.

A lot of swearing went on, bleeding knukcles & lost bolts.

The hardest part of the job is getting the oil drain pipe gasket & bolts back in place. It is all by feel. You can't see sh*t!
