After 30 minutes driving the gearbox shunts a couple of times 30mph, 1,000 yards later does it again.Another 1/8 mile the 'ESP'light illuminates but no geqarbox issue occurs.1/4 mile later 'Parking Brake Malfuction' appears in cluster.Gear selection display disappears from cluster and car loses drive and are able to rev the engine up.First loss of drive road speed dropped from 30 to 18 mph then drive returned. Second loss(1/2 mile later) road speed dropped to 2 mph before it returned and lost drive every 1/2 mile before returning to workshop.Fault is always after 1/2 and repeats same pattern. Looked at fault codes with Solus,Autoboss and had VCDS put on by outside contractor. P1626/05670:-Powertrain databus missing message from TCU. p1847/006215:-check diagnostic trouble code memory for ABS controller. P1881?18289:-Powertrain databus missing message, acceleration intermittent. 01119:-Gear recognition signal intermittent 02083:-Message for delay request,no signal/ communication intermittent. 01315:-Transmission control unit,no signal/ communication intermittent. 01316:-Brake control unit(staus 004) signal/ communication. 01314:-Engine control unit closedown(status 004) 53250:-Check fault codes in comfort control(j393) So having researched codes, we and the subcontractor thought the TCU in the gearbox was faulty. Sent it to ECUtesting who did extend tests say there is no fault found with TCU. Has anyone had experience of this issue or similar.Added complication the car is covereed by a mechanical breakdown insurance who authorised TCU repair.
This was completed about 3 weeks ago,now have time to post answer. Actronics though it was an issue with ABS module.A garage that do TCU repairs in house thought it was still TCU issue.Through a contact we have who knows someone at AUDI TECH. Assistance for dealers meantioned wiring from TCU multiplug up to fire wall.We combed all the wiring from TCU as far as we could access and wiring from PCM. all good. PUT tcu back in box and drove car and monitored codes at each event as described. This time the last event it lost drive totally for 15 minuteS.Bit the bullet and fitted a new TCU from TPS £771.00. Contracter initialised TCU and other software updates from Audi pass through. Job done. Shame ECU Testing could not capture the fault in the TCU
