Ford Transit 2004 - Pairing up second hand fuel pump #

Year of Manufacture *: 2004

I have a customer asking about pairing up a second hand fuel pump. I gave read that new ones can be paired by leaving the ignition on for a few minutes.

If I was to virginise it, what equipment would I need? I have heard kts can do it? I'm presuming ids would. What about superscan?

Any info is helpful, thanks

KTS and IDS are the only ones that I know of (that's not saying that there aren't others)

IDS will do it on the vehicle, KTS will do it with the pump disconnected from the vehicle.

Yes, IF the pump has been re-set by the re-conditioner then once fitted turn the Ign on for 1 mim (without cranking) and then off for 1 min. after that it will be paired.

Have used dec to do code pumps in.
this taken from DEC.

This option is used to match the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) to the PCU (Pump Control Unit). It is important that the key in the ignition is already programmed to this vehicle before using this option. If the key is not programmed, then module initialization will not be possible. If initialization fails, clear and reprogram all the PATS keys for this vehicle and rerun the module initialization option again. NOTE: For this procedure, the engine must be stopped and set ignition switch to ON. The minimum of programmed keys must be two

Snap-on scanners could do pump learning but not on coded access I believe.

If they gave you the option to enter incode I don't know.

Can't remember if I ever used it for this purpose.

on timed access snapon can do it faster than the dec ss3 (security waiting time is less?) but never tried to do coded access with snapon so i've no idea if it can even do it

Thanks for the responses, I've got a better idea now. I'm getting so many questions from customers now where I'm having to say, I'll plug it in and try. Something I don't like going as it looks like I don't know what I'm doing. But we just don't know what our aftermarket scanners are capable of till we try it.

Well on these pump's there are many post's if you look even how to virginize a pump.

You need an adapter lead that connects to the pump directly, and then you "talk" to the pump just the same as any other ECU.
