Renault Megane 2 1.6 16v 2004 - Battery discharging - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 2004

2004 Megane 2 1.6 16v petrol

Battery discharging.

I've found draw to be 0.8 amps using inductive clamp
Removed every fuse I could see and no change.

Found that the left hand fuseable link on battery (fuel heater relay and multifunction control module) disconnect that and drain goes

So back to engine fuse box.

Bit more playing and I found disconnecting the brown plug

Makes drain go.

I don't have any more info on this

So does anyone know what circuits that plug feeds?

Any ideas on best way to go as the okig having about 10 wires it probably feeds a few circuits

How low/accurate is your inductive clamp.?I would check each wire in turn to locate which one has the drain.
Recent post on fixed and gone re cam dephaser causing battery drain issues.

It's a pico low amp clamp on 20 amp setting on my multimeter

Will give that a go thanks for the advise

It's the camshaft sensor that causes the battery drain not the depahser, you also need to do a injection reprogramme to go with the new sensor. You could try disconnecting the sensor (next to the coil at flywheel end) If no luck there try taking all the connection of the fuse module by the nsf headlight, they can suffer from water ingress and corrode.

I have had all the connections off the fuse box.

The one that drops the drain is the brown

But not sure what that plug actually controls

Will give the cam sensor a go as soon as I get In

tested circuit from pph2

orange wire on pin 5 is what has the drain.
does anyone know what circuit this wire controls?

I have a little info on this, but it uses track/pin numbers and not wire colours. Can you see the track number or pin number on the plug.

Also have you done a code read on the underbonnet connection unit (upc), any fault codes?

had to put this one aside to clear some of the other jobs

i havent done a code read as of yet, but i will go and do one and report back

The one I did recently didn't have any fault codes (renault clip). The battery drain was intermittent so was very difficult to pin down.

as I said in previous a post replacing the cam phase sensor cured it.

read about the reprogramming a couple of days after the customer had the car back, but its been fine without the reprogramme for some weeks now.

hello guys

pulled this one back in now managed to clear some of todays jobs

after pulling it in and taking a better look

its now pulling 4.5 amps after several minutes of being locked.

ive traced the wire to be feeding ingnition coils and fuel pump

had back seat up and fuel pump is infact running constantly

so disconnecting fuel pump removes the drain.

now auto data shows fuel pump relay on thde wiring diagram but nothing listed in relay and fuse box

ive looked and cant see a relay so i am assuming its part of the multifunction module/fuse box?

if it is do these things require coding or are they a plug and play?

Can post up exact description and code in morning

Picked a second hand fuse box up on way home to try tomorrow
A new one is 3 day order

Are them faults in the UCP or engine, you really need to check all modules too?
I can only help if you have the Renault DF codes and what modules they're in.

The UCP is coded for the car, I think you can use a second hand unit, VIN and alternator type has to be coded, make sure you check in live data what it shows before you put new unit in and check it,s same after, otherwise you could have alternator and idle problems.

That was under engine

I couldn't see anything relating to UCP
I did click on body and instrument and they ok.

I'm using snap on modis

Other lad isn't in until Monday otherwise would of used his autel too.

Thanks for advise I'll re check again in morning

The fuse box I picked up hasbt cost me anything yet.

I have had 3 of these in the last few months all with damaged under bonnet fuseboxes.
I pulled the first one apart and found the top left corner of the pcb burnt. The second car also had burning in the same place.
I sourced a used box as the customer was short of cash and the car has been fine since.Both of the other cars had used fuseboxes fitted and have all been perfect since.

I think the ones we have fitted have been plug and play.

We have had several getting water damaged from rain water / road spray.

Pretty much french crap electrics

just little update on this guys

The fault code was DF085 fuel pump relay control

fitted the second hand fuse box first thing this morning.

plug and play i can see vin number is different but snap on doesnt offer the option.

but all is ok

the draw is now 0.29 amps initailly and then 0.12 after about 40 mins

so id say vehicle fixed.

keeping it over night to to be sure.

I seem to remember these needed matching / configuring to the alternator type fitted.

Probably wont make much difference but worth checking charge rate is all OK at least

Adam they have all been plug and play so far.
I did another one today as it happens, this is one is currently running around on my substitute fusebox until we can get a replacement.

Thanks for all hell and advise guys

Car was returned to customer today

Spent a night locked up from 5pm until 9am battery was still strong, alternator charging at 14.2 with all loads turned on.

Customer collected.

Will open the old unit up when get a spare chance and see if I can see what up
