Jeep Patriot Sport 2.0D 2008 - Noise from rear, on hard lock pulling away #

Year of Manufacture *: 2008
( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: 2.0 diesel

We have this vehicle in for a noise in rear. We found both rear suspension link rods worn badly so replaced them but the noise seems to be from n/s/r when on a hard lock pulling away or reversing into a space, possibly diff fault.

Someone as said about tyres being the same pattern and depth as that can cause the same noise?as being a 4 wheel drive. It has different tyre tread on rear tyres to the fronts.

Any info would be good.

You could try locking up one rear wheel whilst its on the ramp.

Has it got LSD - the Grand Cherokee have.

Limited slip differential chatter?
Jeep dealers used to, and probably still do, sell a friction modifier additive for the differential.
It was a long time ago so my memory is hazy, but a Jeep dealer told me to operate the differential a few times by driving with one wheel on a less grippy surface than the other. I think that the differential sticks, so that in effect you don't have differential operation, and the half-shafts wind-up.

As Tom says, a jeep dealer near me, used to change diff oil/with additive, then drive hard in circles, alternating direction, making the diff work....u could try it initially without doing oil etc..?
