Volvo XC90 2010 - Fuel flap lock issue - Fixed #

Hi have a fault with a volvo xc90 fuel flap lock issue.Came to us with flap stuck shut.Took control motor off and checked manually-works ok locking and unlocking on bench.When refitted it would only unlock once then not lock again,hence now no locking fuel flap.Have tested wiring with a test light,wires power up both ways(unlock and lock) but when test light put in circuit it only works on the unlock cycle.It appears that the switched earth circuit when locked is not present.Any ideas where this is controlled from....Nigel.

Hi Nigel, it doesn't lock the fuel flap for a few mins after locking the car, its to do with refilling the car at petrol stations.

Swedish logic!

Hi thanks for that info.I will get car back in a recheck if it locks after sitting..done that....do you have a time car has to sit before it locks.Still not locking..

Nigel,

The rear doors and fuel flap locks are controlled by the Rear Electronic Module. The fuel flap motor connects to pins B9 and B26 of the REM located in the N/S/R wheel well I think.

Do the rear door locks work ok? Anything else not working like the fuel gauge, fog lamp?

I would check the module for fault codes as I suspect it has an internal fault. With the right diagnostic tool you will be able to activate the fuel flap motor directly. A new unit will have to be programmed in.

From memory they have an unlocking relay and a locking relay. Nearly all the relays in the N/S/R relay plate are of the same type so can be swapped around to check them. I think you need to wait quite a while before they will lock.

Fault fixed....yes it locked after approx 10 mins!!!!!!
