Ford Mondeo 1.8 TDCi 2009 - Rear axle bush replacement #

Hi

Car came in today having failed NCT test with play in rear axle bushings. Can get bushings but told it is 5 hours work to fit.

Firstline do a bush kit FLST100 but it is very expensive in Ireland (700 euro). Told with bush kit both bushes can be done with very little removal in 1 hour.Can someone recommend cheaper kit for these bushes that maybe i can buy online. Would need to be doing a lot of these Mondeos to justify paying out that much money for a kit.

Hi Liam.
Try VSE 4784 from Sealey.
I don't have either tool but from experience first line parts are some of the worst I've ever encountered.
Mercedes ball joint that lasted less than three weeks, Laguna inner tie rods that lasted less than six months (both sides).
I would hope there tools are better but would not risk buying them.

Are we talking about the sub-frame mountings.

We had one of these last week, the complete sub frame was only £50 from Pages.

We had a mondeo estate in for those bushes last week, got the bushes from our local factor and in the box there was a leaflet trying to get us to buy the tool for the job. When i was told it was 500+ pounds we had to find another solution,i found an old 7 series rear bush tool that we dont use anymore and we just removed the trailing arm and pressed them in/out quite easily using part of the tool. Took two people with one holding the arm and one guiding the bush and operating the press but it was fairly easy.

This was the old 7 series kit,we used the big gold coloured piece

Thanks for all the replies.First line tool is way too expensive.Think i will go for sealey kit which is available for less than 200 euro.Lokks like we will be using it quite a lot in future with a lot of mondeos on the Irish roads.

Never tried replacing oe style bush always fitted powerflex bushes leave sleaves if in good condition cut old rubber out not difficult if worn and need to clean internal bore ,hand push new bushes in .normally takes about 90mins
