Ford Focus 2.0 TDCi 2005 - Hydro electric power steering failure #

Year of Manufacture *: 2005 ( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: 2.0 tdci
Hi everyone,
I wonder if someone can help? We have a 2005 focus 2.0 diesel with hydro electric power steering failure. We have tried all 3 of our diagnostic tools - Texa, Snap-on and Carman scan and none of them will read it, although they have the facility to do so. If we go into Diesel injection we get the fault code U0131 - lost communication with power steering control module. We've checked the wiring to the pump and across the front of the car where we found some very bad earths, which have been rectified, and checked the continuity of all the wiring that is accessible. There seems to be little information about this code and, although the power steering is a common failure on these cars, we don't want to condemn the pump/ecu without being able to confirm it.
Thanks in advance Kev

Load test powers/earths, check Comm lines and move forward.

Now Mark, I consider myself a reasonably intelligent person and I understand every word you wrote as individual words, but, put together as you have done, you may as well have written it in a foreign language. Understandable replies only please - we're not all rocket scientists!!

Not sure that was called for Kev, Mark has posted exactly what's required.
Load test the powers and grounds at the power steering unit. Test the communication lines (CAN I believe).
If they are okay, it needs a new EHPS unit....
You're right, it's not rocket science. But it is a drawn out way to write, exactly what Mark has already posted.

I'm glad it made sense to somebody, I thought it was straight forward.
