Citroen Xsara Picasso 1.6 NFV 2002 - Irratic electrics / BSI - Fixed #

Hi,

I hope someone can help me here. We have an 02 Picasso with a random electrical fault.

Symptoms; Car starts and drives fine, when vehicle gets warmer you can hear irratic ticking from BSI unit, this gets faster and faster untill all BSI controlled electrics fail. You can still drive the car with no problems but you have no lights, instruments, radio etc. Disconnecting the battery and reconnecting returns everything to normality untill restarted.

We have tried a new BSI unit, known good instrument cluster, new battery, ECU test, continuity tests of all available data and all seems fine. With the car not running and ignition on all if fine. I will note that when the irratic ticking starts the windows when used will stop and start in time with the ticking.

Really at the end of my tether with this one !!

Any help very much appreciated.

Hi.
I would load test all lives and earths for BSI .
I would scope those wires to see if there is any interference (alternator / ignition).

I will just add, that i think this has been going on for a while as investigations have found that old BSI, ECU key and transponder are from a different vehicle.

This is worth checking.
Remove the cubby box from under the driver's passenger seat (sprung latch each side).
Underneath is a multi-plug that is renowned for getting soaked and corroding. Look carefully, if there is corrosion remove the seat and lift the carpet before disturbing it too much as there are several wires of the same colour and the only way you can tell where they belong on the connector is the set they have taken. Pull the wires about too much and it will be impossible to work out where they go. A camera may be your friend here.

Fault was ignition coil pack back feeding via ECU.
What a nightmare that was!!

Also make sure it has the right spark plugs.
