Which after market type aproved catalyst? #

( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: honda accord 2.0L petrol

Hi everyone another one of my customers had the misfortune of having his catalyst with os sensor stolen and want's me to fit an after market one. Honda want £900 for it. so again the same dilemma which make to use that will not bring the engine light on after a few miles. what has been your experience with after market catalysts and os sensors ?

My opinion is all aftermarket cats are crap, but we don't really have any choice but to use them, quote dealer prices and it's a lost job.
We have to take the risk, if they come back with a fault then we relace it under warranty, we only give 12 month too.

O2 sensors, we only ever fit bosch or NGK and never had a faulty one yet.

Wouldn't this be covered by the owners insurance?

This option can often be overlooked.

Personally I would rather sweep the floor than mess around with after market catalysts.

However I did once offer a customer (on the bones of their arse) the option to have a Walker cat fitted to their 2005 Fiesta.

I did it with the proviso that if it failed, then the cost of the cat would be considered for warranty, but the labour content would not. I explained clearly that I have little faith in the quality of these components, but would continue with the repair so long as they agreed to my terms.

I have to say that the cat is still performing 14 months later.

It is rare that I expose myself to a customer in this way though (liability wise you understand!

hi and thanks for your comments the customer does't want to involve his insurance so he wants me to fit an aftermarket unit. I will do it but make sure he understands the implications

We have the best luck with Bosal. The cheaper one's often don't last or result in a cat efficiency fault code.

You only have to look at the size difference between OE and aftermarket though to know they won't last.

Hi,
I have fitted a few bosal cats and they always fail the emissions test on mot 12 months later. I always charge labour for replacement under warranty .

I had a similar experience with exact same car a couple of months ago, customer took his Accord to a fast fit for new front downpipe and cat, on the way home,10 miles, the MIL was on with a P0420, told him to go back which he had to do 3 times for different cats, the one on it now is a B and M make cat and that seems to be ok, I have used B and M cats before and they have never thrown a P0420
