Fiat Punto 1.2 8v 2006 - Engine misfire on #2 #3, code P0351 & P0352 #

Year of Manufacture *: 2006
( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: 1200 8 VALVE

Engine misfire on cylinders 2 and 3 with DTC PO351,352.

Difference in coil amperage - cylinder 2 and 3 max 4amps, where Cylinder 1 and 4 is 6amps.

Main cause of fault is Cylinders 2 and 3 injectors are not firing.

No earth signal from ECU. Carried out continuity check from wiring back to ECU.

Before I replace ECU at a cost of £340 from dealer - are there any hidden earth connections that I should check before replacing ECU?

Are you sure the injectors aren't being "switched off" due to a mechanical fault causing a misfire? i.e. headgasket failure?

Or just the usual coil driver fault killing the ECU. Which normally requires you to change the coils at the same time.

Definitely not Head gasket.

Priced ECU from BBA-Reman who would only supply ECU with new Coils.

Coil drivers on Cylinders 2 and 3 definitely not working.

Will advise customer re. coils and ECU.

Hi Ian,

Done a few of these. On occasion when BBA test the ECU they cannot be 100% sure that it is faulty but are reasonably confident it is. They insist on supplying the coils and I always replace the spark plugs if in doubt. Not had a problem yet. You may find that you will have to under-take a cam/crank sync which is explained when you receive the parts.

Another company has been suggested (ECU Testing.com), which tests and repairs ECU at £100. Significantly cheaper than BBA.

They too have suggested replacing Coils, which is actually reassuring and concurs with other advice I have received.

Have detailed each option and Customer prefers to take cheaper option.

ATP electronics would be another suggestion and probably my 1st choice.
