Fiat Punto 1.2 8v 2003 - Numerous CAN faults, C1012, C1013, D601 & U1601 - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 2003
( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: 1.2L 8v

Numerous can faults reported on this car
c1012 vehicle speed from can
c1013 alternator status from can
d601 undocumented code
u1601 can line

The can pattern on the scope is corrupt, I have tried unplugging just about everything and nothing changes it ?

Cannot find any wires twisted together, do Fiat use this system ?

Car cuts out periodically and won't restart until cooled down, triggering signals are absent when in non start condition, crank sensor is working fine.

Any thoughts welcome.

Code read with what ?
2003 seems to be the year CAN was introduced, so if you can,t find CAN wiring it most likely has not got CAN.

Solus Pro and Pico scope

I have the Pico can bus adapter which plugs into diagnostic socket and it all lights up suggesting to me it does have CAN, but I could be wrong.

Hello Malcolm,
I have a Hickleys CAN breakout box which when scoping the CAN signals through it, corrupts the signal. It may be worth checking the signal on pins 6 & 14 , just in case your box is doing the same, but I expect your Pico one is probably ok & the faults are genuine .

Looks like snappy was lying no CAN found.

Cutting out cured by replacing key, barrel,fuse box and ecu with s/h parts, now running fine.

Car not as fixed as I thought, still cuts out at random times, now looking at can faults.
Does anyone know if this is a single wire can as I cannot find any twisted pairs anywhere on the car.
I have a can high signal on B20 on ecu but nothing on B29 which I think should be can low.

Cannot find any can wiring diagrams any ideas would be appreciated.

have seen main earth lead from battery cause similar issues on these. might be worth a look

Really fixed this time !
Perseverance finally paid off, CAN low was shorted to ground by someone who had connected an after market alarm into it !!!!! wiring was a real rats nest.
I Completely removed the alarm and made good all the connections paying special attention to the can wire and hey presto back came the CAN low signal.
Two weeks have now passed with no further interruptions and no further fault codes stored.
