Nissan Primastar F9Q 1.9 2006 - Engine will not rev up when started #

Hi All. Has any one had a problem with a Nissan Primastar like this. The vehicle will start with no problems but will not rev. If I just start it the tick over speed is about 700 rpm, after a few minutes it sometimes goes up to 800rpm for a second or two and then throttle will work. I have also found that if it will not rev up I just have to squeeze the fuel primer bulb and it will then rev that way. Once it works again then there is no fault with driving the vehicle until I switch it off again.

Hi Mike

May be worth a search under Renault & vauxhall equivalents as this topic has come up before.

I would start by checking injectors & rail pressure relief valve excessive leak off.

I had one recently with a faulty MAF that behaved like this intermittently. Scoping it was inconclusive but the clue came from the live data. once I bit the bullet and changed it all was fine.

hi did have a vauxhall doing the same no fault codes set and when i tested mass air flow it was short to ground
saying this also had a primastar with same issue and customer reported if he rolled it down hill under tick over and dumped the clutch the throttle response returned
the fuel pressure was low and slow to build
was sorted with new fuel pump
