VW Tiguan 2.0 CBAB 2008 - Cut out on customers driveway - Fixed #

hi all
i have a 2.0d tiguan that has just cut out on the customers driveway whilst she was warming it up.

ive had a quick look and the cam pulley and pump pulley dont both line up with the locking pins, so something has jumped, so before i rip her apart has anybody else had this problem?

common rail? Any diagnostics? Anything? Straight to the timing pins?

You'll have to turn it quite a few times before the pump and cam locking pins will go in, but to be honest being common rail im sure you know the importance of pump timing....

That's quite a leap you've taken though. Have you checked pressures? Live data, fault codes etc etc

morning
i have checked fuel pressure, fault codes, type of fuel, scoped the crank and cam sensor/injectors and all seem ok, but when cranking the engine just doesnt quite sound right, hence checking the timing.

all live data looks ok so will let you guys know how i get on

So is the cam sensor in the pump ? or is the pump dumb.

give us the data what you checked. live data which is ok for you . What fuel pressure .

What about a slight sniff of easy start to establish whether the engine will run.

lol at andy evans,

I did sniff the car but it still wouldn't start

i took the covers off and the pump timing had jumped, so i reset the pump timing and it started first turn and ran fine in the workshop for 4 hours, just have to figure out now why it jumped.

Hi Stuart

I think this will be back as a none starter.

The Injection Pump is not Timed for the point of injection. This is a Common rail High pressure pump.

The locking pin on the High pressure pump is for Timing belt tensioning only. The pump is set on its compression point when the belt is tensioned.

once you have tensioned the belt ,and rotated the engine twice camshaft and crankshaft must be secured in position. It is very difficult to find the securing position of the high-pressure pump hub again. a slight deviation does not influence the engine operation.

So when you checked the valve timing , if the camshaft and crankshaft tools inserted ok But the High pressure pump was out slightly this is quite normal.......

So you have actaully fixed nothing it seems???

so the timing jumped only on the pump? Cam and crank were in place? In this case why it wouldnt run on easy strt? I think I agree with Darren
